Japanese Firms Just Bought 23 American Homebuilders and Are on Track to Control 6% of US Construction | Daily Tesla News

Japanese homebuilding companies have been acquiring American homebuilders at an accelerating pace. According to the Wall Street Journal, CNBC, and ResiClub, Japanese firms have acquired 23 U.S. single-family homebuilders since 2020, more than double the pace of acquisitions from 2013 through 2019. Japanese companies now own 33 homebuilders operating in the United States and are on track to control roughly 6% of U.S. home construction. The acquisitions have accelerated dramatically in early 2026, with firms like Sumitomo Forestry, Daiwa House, and Sekisui House leading the charge. Japanese firms have a significant capital advantage due to Japan’s near-zero borrowing costs, allowing them to outbid domestic buyers for American homebuilders.
